I Know What It's Like to Feel Disconnected From
Family History
Hi, I’m Karen Mayer, Founder of SavvyArt Market.
When my brother and I inherited our family photos, we faced the same overwhelming reality you’re facing now… boxes of precious memories, most of people we can't even identify anymore.
Among the typical formal family photos was a picture from the early 1910s showing my grandfather as a baby in his father's arms. Another photo taken the same day featured older children, boys with boxing gloves squared off against each other in their backyard boxing ring.
You see, my grandfather was one of 11 children (8 boys, 3 girls), and their Irish father built a boxing ring in the backyard for settling conflicts. When photography was still a novelty and film was precious, they chose to document their boxing prowess for posterity.
This photo for me is a reflection of who we were. The humour, the grit, the resilience that runs through our family. It represents a connection to our ancestors.
Over the years, I've helped dozens of families transform their heritage photos from overwhelming burdens into beautiful celebrations of family history.
I've walked in your shoes, feeling overwhelmed by inherited family photos. And I know these aren't just pictures. For you, they're connections to your heritage and identity, the same way it is for me.
Here's what people are saying:
"Wanted you to know how thrilled we are with the photos." ~ Catherine, 75
"Karen takes it to another level." ~ Donna, 61
"Karen, you did an amazing editing job..." Pam, 80
"We love it!" ~ Joann, 58
"Looks great. There were lots of black spots." ~ Jeannie, 76

Why Professional Restoration Matters
Old photos tend to be small and often damaged, faded or stained. Like the 1940s Boy In Paper Hat photo above, when you want to print heritage photos larger (this one became 12.5" x 10"), every tiny white mark, crease, and unclear pixel needs professional attention.
While AI tools can make quick fixes, you need professional-level expertise to prepare heritage photos properly for printing. Without the right corrections, your photos may look fine on screen but disappoint when printed.
Scanning at Staples and making it bigger simply won't work because old heritage photos need expert restoration to become the beautiful family treasures they deserve to be.
Transparent Pricing for Every Heritage Photo Project
Here are three common restoration packages:
Single Heritage Photo: $85-$200 range

Great for creating a heritage photo gallery wall

Comprehensive family legacy preservation
Package deals available for multiple photos. Every project is unique and during your free consultation, we'll provide exact pricing based on your specific photos and goals.
Five Compelling Reasons to Honour Your Family's Visual Legacy
1. Honour Precious Memories
You have incredibly special memories featured in photos and it's time to celebrate those memories. If not now, when? As one client said, "Unfortunately, very few people appreciate them! Right now, so many pictures are taken, then stored in a computer to be forgotten."
2. Connect With Your Heritage
Restored heritage photos help you understand where you came from and who you really are.
3. Create Meaningful Gifts
Perfect for family members' gifts because restored heritage photos become treasured gifts that strengthen family bonds.
4. Preserve Family Stories
Heritage photos preserve the stories and values that matter most.
5. Save Time and Effort
Professional restoration delivers results you simply can't achieve yourself. If your time has value, get expert help.
Common Questions About Heritage Photo Restoration
What is a Free Heritage Photo Review?
Think of it as a no-pressure way to discover your heritage photo's potential.
Here's exactly what to expect:
You share your photo and details by filling out our simple form or emailing it to karen@savvyart.ca. Tell me a bit about the photo—who's in it, what's the story behind it, what condition it's in, and what you're hoping to achieve (restore damage, enlarge it, fix the lighting, etc.).
Within 24 hours, I'll send you a personalized assessment that includes:
-
What restoration work your photo needs (damage repair, enhancement, clarity, etc.)
-
What's realistically achievable—I'll be honest about what can and can't be done
-
A clear cost estimate based on the complexity of your specific photo
-
Timeline for completion, including whether it can be ready for Christmas delivery
Then we'll connect in whatever way is comfortable for you. I'm happy to hop on a brief phone call to walk through my recommendations and answer your questions. Or if you prefer, we can continue the conversation via email. There's absolutely no obligation to move forward—this review is simply to help you understand your options.
The goal? To give you clarity and confidence about how to honor your family's visual legacy, without any pressure or guesswork about cost.
I don't have time to organize all these photos. Can you help?
Absolutely. Part of my service includes helping you choose which photos will have the biggest impact. I know from working with so many clients the fastest way to navigate that big bin of photos. During our consultation, I'll guide you through the selection process so you don't feel overwhelmed.
What if my photos are too damaged?
You'd be surprised what's possible with professional restoration. Even photos with significant damage, fading, or creases can often be beautifully restored. I'll honestly assess what's achievable during our consultation.
Is this different from scanning at Staples?
Completely different. Basic scanning just digitizes the damage. Professional restoration repairs, enhances, and prepares photos for beautiful enlargement and display. The results speak for themselves. If you want clarity and a gorgeous image to cherish and feature on your wall, professional restoration is the way to go.
Can this really be done in time for the holidays?
For Christmas delivery, heritage projects should begin by December 5th. Simpler projects (1-5 photos) can often be completed faster. Let's discuss your timeline during the consultation. We can always do a project in stages, which means we go forward in steps at the pace you want to go.
How do I know which photos are worth restoring?
During our review I'll help you identify photos with the greatest potential for beautiful restoration and family impact.
Do I need to mail my photos to you?
Never! You are welcome to deliver them in person, or if you're close by, we can pick them up. If you live farther away, your precious photos stay safely with you. Once we start your project, I'll send you instructions to scan your photo at home (if you are equipped) or recommend a local professional near you. Then you'll email me the digital file. Don't worry – I'll guide you through every step to make sure your scan is perfect for restoration. It's easier than you think and your originals never leave your hands.
